CHEROKEE —On Friday, federal, state, and local officials gathered at the former Barton Railcar Plant located in Barton at 1200 Haley Drive to celebrate the official ribbon-cutting of Factory 4, a landmark 2.2-million-square-foot manufacturing facility dedicated to supporting the U.S. Navy’s maritime and submarine industrial base.
The facility represents a monumental $2 billion capital investment in Northwest Alabama. Driven by cutting-edge artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing technologies, Factory 4 is set to become a primary hub for the production of critical subcomponents for the U.S. Navy’s fleet.

Economic Impact: The plant is expected to bring between 750 and 1,500 new jobs to the region, bolstering the local economy and providing long-term career opportunities in advanced manufacturing.

The crowd to welcome this new industry to Alabama reached nearly 1000 people with musical entertainment from Lynyard Skynyrd. Food trucks on the lawn with tours of the cutting edge facility were just part of the presentation ensuring a grand entry into the Northwest Alabama region.
