Colonel Thomas L. Haller, age 77, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Colonel Haller proudly served his country in the United States Army for 29 years. He is survived by his wife, Andrea; son, Aaron (Stephanie) and their triplet sons, Colin, Andrew, and Travis; son, Kevin (Hope); and son, Todd (Tecie). His surviving siblings include John Haller (Mary), Pat Haller (Carla) and Nancy Phelan who reside in Pennsylvania.

Colonel Haller was a native of Yeagertown, Pennsylvania. Upon graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1970 he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree. He received a Master of Science Degree in System Management from the Forida Institute of Technology. His military education includes completion of the Air Defense Artillery Basic and Advanced Courses, the Army Flight School, the Army Command and General Staff College, The Program Manager’s Course of the Defense Systems Management College, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

His assignments included:

Project Manager, Corps Surface-to -Air Missile (CORPS SAM), Chief, Program Analysis and Evaluation, Headquarters, United States Army Space and Strategic Defense Command; Director, Counter Air Directorate, United States Army Operational Evaluation Command; Deputy Systems Manager (Forward Area Air Defense) for Testing, United States Army Training and Doctrine Command; Department of the Army Systems Coordinator for HAWK and MSAM, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Research, Development, and Acquisition; and Operations Officer (S3), 94th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 32d Army Air Defense Command, Kaiserslautern, Germany. He commanded B Battery, 3d Battalion 59th Air Defense Artillery (HAWK), Butzbach, Germany and the 1st Support Battalion at Fort Bliss, Texas. In addition, he has served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, an aide-de-camp to the Commanding General of 32d Army Air Defense Command in Germany, and as assistant football coach at West Point.

Awards and decorations received included:

The Legion of Merit; the Meritorious Service Medal (with six Oak Leaf Clusters); the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Aviation Badge.

Upon retirement from the Army, he worked for the Boeing Company for 10 years and then SDI for three years, all of which was related to the missile defense industry. He was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, musician and Army football fan.

There will be visitation at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, 2320 Bob Wallace Avenue, Huntsville AL on Saturday, July 11 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The family invites friends to a Celebration of Life at the Haller home immediately afterwards.
