Susan Kinzer Neighbors passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Davis “Buddy” Kinzer, Jr.; her mother, Ruby Susie “Sue” Houk Kinzer; her brother, John “Johnny” Robert Kinzer; her sister, Marjorie Lee Kinzer; and her beloved husband, William “Billy” Wesley Neighbors Sr.
She is survived by her children William Wesley “Wes” Neighbors Jr. (Phyllis), Claire Neighbors Roby, and Gilbert Keith Neighbors (Kim); her grandchildren Wesley, Connor, Anna Lakin, Ryan, Savannah, Jackson, Hayden, Willa, Billy, and Lawson; and eleven great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Susan was the beloved matriarch of the Neighbors family and a cherished member of the community. She was known for her grace, strength, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and resilience will continue to live on through the generations she nurtured and inspired.
In addition to her devotion to family, Susan was deeply committed to protecting children and strengthening families in the Huntsville area. She served as Chairman of the Huntsville Coalition for Child Abuse and was a passionate advocate for child abuse prevention through her work with the SCAN (Stop Child Abuse and Neglect) program, now known as the National Children’s Advocacy Center. Her leadership and compassion left a lasting impact on the lives of countless children and families, and her dedication to this mission was a reflection of her deep belief in service and community care.
A visitation service will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Huntsville First United Methodist Church, 120 Greene Street, Huntsville, AL 35801. A celebration of life will follow at 2:00 PM at Maple Hill Cemetery, 202 Maple Hill St SE, Huntsville, AL 35801.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Huntsville First United Methodist Church, 120 Greene Street, Huntsville, AL 35801 or the National Children’s Advocacy Center, 210 Pratt Avenue, Huntsville, AL 35801—two causes close to Susan’s heart.
