Lawrence “Larry” Edward Greb passed away on June 16, 2025. Larry was born and raised in East Moline, Illinois. He was a 1964 graduate of United Township High School in East Moline, Illinois. Shortly after high school, Larry continued his education at Northern Illinois University, where he earned a degree in political science in 1969.

Larry retired from government service in October 2001, after a 33-year career as an IT and logistics specialist. His loyalty to Northern Illinois University remained strong until his passing — Larry was frequently seen wearing Huskies attire and cheering on his team at every opportunity.

An avid reader with a vast knowledge of trivia, Larry was a valued team member of “Space Force” during their weekly trivia nights. His ability to recall even the most obscure facts made him a formidable player — and a wonderful friend.

Larry made friends easily wherever he went and especially delighted in traveling — he saw a great deal of the world, often by cruise ship, adding rich stories to his already extensive knowledge.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Edward Greb; his mother, Helen (Gnatovich) Greb; his sister, Karen (Greb) Derteen, and his nephew, Curtis Boomershine. He is survived by his sister, Barbara E. Boomershine; nieces, Alison Haugerud (Neil), Joline Gugliemino (Rich), Dana Roberts (Steve), and Marla Dorsee (Jennifer); nephews, Timothy Boomershine (Lisa), and Jon Boomershine (Kristen); and special friends, Perry Daley and Melissa DeHollander.

A prayer service followed by a visitation with family will be held on Friday June 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Northern Illinois University Alumni Association (231 N. Annie Glidden Road, DeKalb, IL 60115), or St. Jude Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) in Larry’s memory.
