Sonia Mary Stacy Gojsza, 93, died March 16, 2024. Sonia was born near Woodbury, Tennessee to William Ernest Stacy and Dora Francis King Stacy. Predeceasing Sonia were her parents; husband, Col. (Ret.) William P. Gojsza; sisters, Mildred and Ann; and brother, Jack. She leaves behind three children, Eugenia G. Jones (Mike), Susan E. Gallagher, and Carol A. Lenas (Jim); as well as three grandsons, and two great-grandsons.
Sonia graduated from high school with honors. She was a Korean War veteran, and Miss Fort Benning 1951. She became a civil servant working for Werner von Braun on the intermediate-range ballistic missile on Redstone Arsenal and later with the engineers performing field studies.
Sonia was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She was a participative parent, serving as Room Mother, Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher and much more. Her thirst for knowledge had her attending college whenever possible and visiting every state and most countries around the world. When her husband retired, Sonia went to work as a realtor and later a Broker in Huntsville, Alabama. She loved working on crossword puzzles, listening to music and dancing. Her laughter and love of life will be missed.
Visitation for Sonia will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL followed by a graveside service at Maple Hill Cemetery.
