Sherry Teresa King, age 70, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Friday, December 13, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Sherry was born on August 27, 1954, in Columbia, Tennessee, to the late Allen Frank Hay and the late Ethel Mae Humphrey Hay. She was of the Christian faith and attended Philippi Church of Christ for many years, where she nurtured her strong beliefs.
A hardworking and selfless woman, Sherry spent many years employed at Union Carbide and later worked as a janitor. She was known for her strength, resilience, and determination. Sherry enjoyed gardening and was an exceptional cook, always ready to welcome others into her home with open arms and a warm meal. Her kindness and generosity extended to anyone in need, and her home was a sanctuary for all.
Sherry had a deep love for animals, cherishing her cats, dogs, and a horse, as well as delighting in feeding her hummingbirds. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her children and grandchildren, who were her greatest joy.
She is survived by her children: Philip (Bethany) King of Columbia, David King of Columbia, Dana King of Williamsport, and Lori (Robert) Humphrey of Santa Fe; her sisters: Wilma Hood of Franklin and Linda Griggs of Columbia; her grandchildren: Jenna King, Journey King, Scarlett King, Fabian King, Heaven King, Jasmine Potts, and Mercedes Roglaski; and her great-grandchildren: Preston Steele, Parker Steele, Hudson Scott, Kye Scott, and Maddilyn Mae Smith. She is also remembered by Ricky King, with whom she shared her life and family.
Pallbearers will be Fabian King, Christian Smith, Dillon Scott, Nick Steele, Vince Scott, and Cameron Scott.
