Shelby “Jean” Smith, 83, of the Rainbow Crossing community died on October 25th, 2021.
Jean was born on September 15th, 1938. Her parents were the late Euell and Olive Thomas.
Jean balanced being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother with successful careers in cosmetology and later real estate. For over 20 years, she was part of a three-generation real estate company with her daughter, Karen, and granddaughter, Holli. Those that were in need, even complete strangers, always seemed to be led to her and she would always extend whatever help she could, no questions asked. She was belovedly known as “Mother Jean” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters: Karen and Jeanean Smith, two
granddaughters: Shea (Stephen) Beard and Holli Rae (Jesse) Shelton, and
four great-grandchildren: James Haden and Della Mae Beard, Raelee Grace and Fisher Thomas Shelton, and a host of nephews.
He is preceded in death by her husband Ray Haden Smith, her infant
daughter, Mary, her parents, and sister, Dorothy Jarvis.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Rock Springs United Methodist Church, 1904 County Hwy 6, Blountsville, AL, 35031. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
