SHEFFIELD-Sergeant Nick Risner will make the Hero’s Ride Home today from Huntsville. The Sheffield Police Department has issued the following statement concerning details of Sgt. Risner’s ride home:
“HERO’S RIDE HOME: Sgt. Nick Risner made the ultimate sacrifice for his community on October 1, 2021. On October 2, 2021 he succumbed to his injuries.
Sgt Nick Risner made the selfless decision to put himself in harm’s way to protect citizens Colbert County. That decision resulted in Sgt. Risner being shot in the line of duty. Sgt. Risner succumbed to injuries in October 2, 2021.
Sgt. Nick Risner continued to serve his community and others even after death by organ donation. Sgt. Nick Risner will be given a hero’s escort home today.
For those who wish to pay your respects to Sgt Risner and his family for the ultimate sacrifice made October 1, 2021. Times will be fluids but estimated departure time from Huntsville AL to the Shoals will be between 1 pm to 2 pm.
The route is as follows: departure from Huntsville via 565 to hwy 20 in Decatur, West on Hwy 20 thru Town Creek into the Shoals. From Hwy 72 , North on Wilson Dam Rd then left on Avelon Ave crossing Woodward Ave. Continue west to S. Montgomery taking right in front of Helen Keller Hospital. We will continue North on Montgomery Ave. turning right on Hatch Blvd in front of Sheffield Police Department. We will continue on Hatch Blvd to Atlanta Ave where we will turn right and continue South where we will take left onto 2nd St. We will continue East crossing over Woodward Ave back to Wilson Dam where we will take a left. Crossing Patton Island Bridge to Williams Funeral Home at 1950 Helton Dr. Florence, Alabama.
