SBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting In Madison County

HUNTSVILLE-The Madison County Sheriff’s Department as well as the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency released statements concerning an officer involved shooting that took place on January 6:

MADISON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
DEPUTY-INVOLVED SHOOTING
Huntsville, AL (January 6, 2023): Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies were involved in a shooting on Thursday night at approximately 11:00 pm, in the 200 block of Dixon Road. As a result of the shooting one person is dead and the involved deputies have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation which is being conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation.
Madison County Sheriff’s deputies were patrolling in the area of Joe Quick Rd. and Hwy. 231 when they were advised of gunshots being fired in the 200 block of Dixon Rd. The shots were allegedly stemming from a domestic situation outside of one of the houses on the block. Deputies made contact with Ray King, 50, of Hazel Green, who was armed. Deputies fired their weapons and Mr. King was struck. Deputies rendered first-aid but Mr. King died on the scene. Mr. King’s handgun was recovered from the scene.
The State Bureau of Investigation responded to conduct the investigation and the involved deputies were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the SBI investigation as well as the findings of an internal Sheriff’s Office Shooting Review Board.”

MADISON COUNTY – On Friday, Jan. 6, at the request of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an investigation into an officer‐involved shooting, which involved deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred at 201 Dixon Drive in
Hazel Green.

One subject, Ray Dean King, 50, is deceased. No officers were injured during the course of the incident.

Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Madison County District Attorney’s Office.”
