Sally Jo King, age 79, passed away peacefully in the early dawn hours on Thursday, July 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on May 30, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri, Sally lived a life defined by faith, devotion to family, quiet generosity, and steadfast character. She was known for her direct and straightforward nature, her strong will, and her practical, frugal spirit. Though she never sought the spotlight, those who knew her recognized the depth of her compassion, her unwavering loyalty, and her willingness to help others whenever she could.
Sally shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, her faithful husband, Alva “Bud” King. Their journey led them from Missouri to Lake Charles, Louisiana, then to Norton, Ohio, and eventually to Middle Tennessee. For the past 20 years, Bud and Sally made Smithville, Tennessee, their cherished home, where they enjoyed fellowship with friends at Patty’s, became active members of their church, and found happiness in the life they built together.
A wonderful homemaker, Sally created a home where family always came first. Alongside Bud, she served as a foster parent for many years, opening both her home and her heart to children in need. While raising their family, they were members of the Community of Christ. In recent years, Sally was a faithful attendee of Smithville Christian Fellowship Church, where her quiet servant’s heart and love for others continued to shine.
Sally found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved gathering with friends and neighbors for church bake sales and potluck dinners, spending time playing cards, working jigsaw puzzles, painting ceramics, and losing herself in a good book. She was also an animal lover whose gentle heart extended to every creature she encountered.
Above all, Sally will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, faithful friend, and woman of enduring faith. Her kindness was often expressed through quiet acts of service rather than words, and her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through her generosity, steadfast love, and example.
Sally is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Alva “Bud” King; her four children, Debra Bowes, Michael King, Laura Randall, and Christina King; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three siblings, Robert Flora, Nancy Flora, and Byron Flora; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Geraldine Flora, and all others who welcome her into eternal life.
A celebration of Sally’s life will be held at a time to be announced by the family. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Sally’s memory are invited to make a memorial donation to their preferred charitable organization, or to Smithville Christian Fellowship Church.
