Roy Wesley Miller, 84, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026.
Roy was born on January 5, 1942, on a cotton farm in Boaz, Alabama, to Rebecca and Connie Miller. He graduated from Susan Moore High School in 1959 and went on to earn a degree in Biology from Jacksonville State University in 1963. He began his career as a biology teacher in Birmingham, where he taught for four years before pursuing a career in law.
He earned his law degree from Cumberland School of Law in 1969 and soon after made Huntsville his home. Roy began his distinguished legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in 1972, later serving in the Attorney General’s Office in 1980. He ultimately became a highly respected and renowned criminal defense attorney, practicing for more than four decades. In the courtroom, Roy was a force to be reckoned with—known for his grit, sharp instincts, and unmistakable Southern drawl. His quick wit and well-timed humor could disarm a tense room just as easily as his toughness could command it. These qualities, along with his unwavering commitment to justice, earned him widespread respect in the community and national recognition through his involvement in several notable cases.
Outside of his professional life, Roy cherished time spent with his wife, Beth, and his family. He was an avid Alabama football fan and found great joy in watching games with loved ones.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Miller; brother, Glen Miller; and parents.
Roy is survived by his sister, Elaine Sisson (Johnny) of Boaz, Alabama; his three sons, Roger Pruitt (Betsy), John Miller and Matthew Miller (Elena), all of Huntsville, Alabama; and four granddaughters, Birdie Pruitt, Valentina Miller, Maria Miller, and Ela Miller.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2026, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
