Richard Thomas "Reek" Wilson, Sr.Richard Thomas “Reek” Wilson, Sr. passed away Sunday, March 20, 2022.  He was born on May 24, 1935 in Huntsville, Alabama, the son of Florence and Zelma Wilson.  Reek was a 1954 graduate of Huntsville High School, attended UAH and was in the US Army.  He was employed by Liberty National Insurance and retired from State Farm Insurance, where he loved “his people” as he called his insured.  Reek volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Botanical Gardens and the Red Cross at Huntsville Hospital.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Wanda Renager Wilson; sons, Richard Wilson and Rock Wilson (Teresa); granddaughter, Keyla Piechocki (Scott); great-grandson, Samuel Piechocki; sisters, Helen Morgan (Cecil) and Anna Ruth Michael; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Buddy Wilson and Brown Wilson; and sisters, Frances Russo, Gayle Butler and Elizabeth Wilson.

Reek enjoyed first and foremost spending time with his family.  He loved being outdoors working in his yard, playing softball and golf and also coaching his “little friends” in Little League, Major League and Babe Ruth at Oak Park.  Reek loved the hours he spent leading the youth and senior citizens of Epworth United Methodist Church where he was a member for 60 years.  He enjoyed beach trips, playing games and eating out with his family and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 23rd from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home.  Visitation will also be Thursday, March 24th from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Epworth United Methodist Church followed by service at 11:00 with Pastor Sherill Clontz, Pastor Peter Von Herrmann and Dr. Andrew Wolfe officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Epworth United Methodist Church.  The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Randall and all other health care professionals who were involved in his care.
