Rebecca J. Corder, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on June 10, 2026.
Rebecca was a loving mother to her son, Keith Corder (Courtney), and her daughter, Stacey Corder. She was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom brought tremendous joy to her life. She also shared a special bond with her step-grandson, Cameron Ezell.
Mom was the kind of person who would do whatever she had to do to make sure Stacey and I had what they needed. Many times, she went without so that we could have more. She was always there when someone needed her, whether it was family, friends, or anyone going through a difficult time.
Several years ago, she moved from Montgomery to Southside to be closer to us. Family meant everything to her. She lit up whenever she saw her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and nothing made her happier than spending time with them.
Mom loved the color purple, butterflies, and yellow roses. She enjoyed making others happy and found joy in giving. One of my sisters favorite memory, is how she would get up before sunrise, even in freezing temperatures or snow, to go Black Friday shopping. She loved the excitement of finding gifts and seeing the happiness it brought to others.
People often commented on how much Stacey looked like Mom. Wherever they went, people knew they were mother and daughter. Their bond was special and remained strong throughout Mom’s life. My sister was very attentive and protective of my mom in her final months.
She also dearly loved her faithful companion, Abbie, who was by her side for many years.
Dementia robbed Mom of much of the last few years of her life, but it never took away the love she had for her family. About seven weeks before her passing, she suffered a stroke. During those final weeks, she rarely opened her eyes, but my sister and sitters knew she was still listening. They could ask her questions, and she would answer. They would tease her and tell her she was just playing possum, and sometimes she would even crack a little grin. Those moments became precious memories that we will forever cherish.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Lisa Turner, Jessica Hughey, Angie Lawrence, Michelle Wright, and all of the staff at Barfield Health and Rehab. For the year and a half Mom lived there, she was blessed with many angels watching over her. Their kindness, compassion, and care meant more to our family than words can adequately express.
Mom fought hard until the very end. On June 10, 2026, the Lord told her it was time to stop fighting and finally rest. In what seemed fitting for someone who spent her entire life thinking of others, she waited until her daughter, Stacey, arrived. Stacey prayed with her and told her it was okay to let go.
Surrounded by love, she peacefully did just that.
A graveside funeral service will be held for Mrs. Corder at Hartselle Memory Gardens Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 10:00 AM.
