Raymond Levon Dyer, age 71 of Winchester, won his last earthly battle and entered rest on August 22, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family and the good Lord. A native of Franklin County, he was born in Winchester on November 14, 1949, to the late Raymond and Lorene (Myers) Dyer Sr. Raymond, Levon as many family members lovingly called him, wore many hats during his lifetime. From bus driver to lime hauler and public servant for the cities of Decherd and Winchester as patrolman, deputy, investigator, chief of police, and assistant chief of police in Winchester, where he retired. He never judged anyone by how much money they had or what they wore. He loved serving his community, a calling he took to heart. He loved the people he worked for and with. He was an honest man, to a fault, and he held himself to the highest standard. He enjoyed everything outdoors, from fishing and hunting to just being outdoors itself, a passion he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Raymond is survived by many who love him. The love of his lifetime, Lucy Dyer, who he proudly married forty-nine years ago and could recount most every step they took together. His son, of whom he was so proud, George (Allison) Dyer of Winchester; daughter who adores him, Ginger Dyer (Keith Clanton) of Altamont; four grandsons, who he could’ve sworn hung the moon, Chase Henderson (Faith Wiggs), Riley Henderson (Mia Sanson), Jacob Dyer, and Cameron Dyer. Visitation will be held from 1-4pm on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 4:00 pm in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Dr. Rev. Michael Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Garner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests donations be made to American Cancer Society.
