Obituary written by her loving family,
Myra Angela Ray Deese was born on May 7, 1968, to Peggy Freeman (Curvin) and James Earl Ray. As the eldest of three daughters, she carried a strong sense of responsibility and resilience throughout her life.
Myra was a devoted mother and a proud grandmother. Her three children were her greatest accomplishments, but it was her grandchildren—Caleb, Jacob, Keileigh, Novalee, and Baby B—who truly lit up her world and brought her endless joy.
Life was not always easy for Myra. She became a mother at the young age of 15 when she welcomed her oldest son, Joshua Willingham. A decade later, she celebrated the birth of her daughter, LaKrishia Hailey, and three years after that, she welcomed her youngest, Taylor Deese.
Though she never finished high school in the traditional sense, Myra was determined to create a better future for her family. With perseverance and dedication, she earned her GED through night classes and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2004.
Myra faced many chapters of hardship. Through it all, she did her best to keep her head held high and her faith intact.
In recent years, Myra’s health began to decline. Though her journey was marked by ups and downs, Myra’s life was filled with moments of joy, love, and perseverance. She will be remembered not only for her strength and determination but also for her deep love for her family, especially her grandchildren who brought her so much light.
Through every season of her life, her love for Jesus remained consistent. Her faith was a source of strength, even in the midst of struggle. She believed in His grace, clung to His promises, and found hope in knowing that this world was not her final home.
Though we grieve her absence, we take comfort in knowing she is now whole and at peace, spending eternity in the presence of her Savior. Her journey on earth may be complete, but her story continues in heaven—where joy has no end, and love never fades.
Myra is preceded in death by her father, James Earl Ray, step-fathers Junior Freeman and Larry Slaughter. She is survived by her mother, Peggy Freeman, three children, Joshua Willingham, LaKrishia (Jesse) Hailey, and Taylor (Joe) Deese, sisters Tina Slaughter and Vickie Slaughter, mothers of her grandchildren, Mary and Tiffany. Her five grandchildren who were the light of her life: Caleb Willingham, Jacob Willingham, Keileigh Feria, Novalee Hailey, and Baby B Hailey.
