Gurney Ray Osborne, Jr., 76, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at his residence. A Celebration of Life will be Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 6:30 PM at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Michael “Big Red” James officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:30 PM at the chapel prior to the service.
Mr. Osborne was born in Decatur, Alabama on January 25, 1949 to Gurney Ray and Sarah Nell Cheatham Osborne, Sr. After high school he served his country as a veteran for two years in the United States Army; and then went on to earn his Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy. He was employed at Decatur General Hospital as a Respiratory Therapist for ten years. Ray loved to play music and sing in his local band. During his free time, he also enjoyed working on lawn mowers.
Mr. Osborne was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His kindness and love will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
Mr. Osborne was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Ann Reid; and brother, Sterling Dannie Osborne, Sr.
Mr. Osborne is survived by his son, Eric Osborne Smith (Ale); grandson, Gray Smith; brother, Mark Osborne (Joann); sister-in-law, Lawanda Lynn Osborne; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
Shelton Funeral Home was honored and entrusted to assist the family with arrangements.
