Ransom Doyle Burt, age 83, was born on April 19, 1940, in Laurel, Mississippi to Wilmer and Louena Burt.
He entered into the arms of his Savior on August 17, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Gordon Burt, Edgar Burt, and Raymond Burt (infant). He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janice Murray Burt, children: Timothy Burt (Tami) of Monroe, Georgia, DeAnn Collins (Tim) of Lacey’s Spring, Alabama, grandchildren: Moriah Newton (Daniel), Ethan Collins (Lindsey), Holly Collins, siblings: Nan Huston, Maydean Holley (John), Martha Fowler (Jim), Hillman Burt (Deloris), and sister-in-law Elaine Burt.
He served his country proudly in the US Navy from 1959 to 1963. In 1968 he joined Bethlehem Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a deacon and as the Senior Men’s Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed the annual Navy ship reunion with shipmates from the USS Colonial LSD-18. He retired from Phoenix Industries after 35+ years of service. Ransom’s life was characterized by his love for his Lord, his family, and his country. He will be remembered as a man who spent his life serving others.
Visitation for Ransom will be Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Laceys Spring (10089 HWY 36, Lacey’s Spring, AL 35754) followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 PM. Graveside service and interment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the building fund at Bethlehem Baptist Church (PO Box 27, Lacey’s Spring, AL 35754)
