ATHENS-On Friday, August 15, Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks officially proclaimed Friday, August 22, as “Rep the A Day” in Athens, in connection with the Pep Rally on The Square.

The annual Pep Rally on The Square has been held before the very first home game of each Athens High School football season for the past several decades and is attended by hundreds of people each year. This year’s event will take place on Marion Street at 3:30 p.m. in historic downtown Athens.

Mayor Marks read and signed the official proclamation in front of seniors from Athens High School’s band, cheer, and dance teams. The proclamation encouraged all residents of Athens to proudly display their Athens Golden Eagles’ pride and join in the celebration this Friday.

“The Pep Rally on The Square showcases the classic, southern character of Athens by bringing players, coaches, cheerleaders, band members, and fans together in our historic Downtown Athens to celebrate the school spirit of our Golden Eagles,” said Mayor Marks. “This camaraderie pays tribute to a long-held tradition and brings people together in support of students, staff, and our community. It’s great to be a Golden Eagle!”

The City of Athens invites all citizens to go all out in their black and gold team spirit and come out to support the Athens High School Golden Eagles at the Pep Rally on The Square. All Athens City Schools will have early dismissal to allow students and their families to attend the event. Buses will depart at the school’s early dismissal time, so please plan for all bus riders to arrive home earlier than usual.

Again, the Pep Rally on The Square will take place this Friday, August 22, at 3:30 p.m. on Marion Street in historic Downtown Athens. For more information, please see the attached poster for the event.

We all look forward to seeing you there!
