It is with heavy hearts that her family announces the passing of Mary Margaret Yearout Garber on July 22, 2025, at the age of 99 at her home in Huntsville, Alabama.
Known to her family and friends as “Pug,” she was born in Princeton, West Virginia to Charles Edwin and Emma Gertrude Winfrey Yearout. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Garber, Jr. and six brothers and sisters. She was also deeply saddened by the deaths of her second son, Michael Stephen Garber in 2020 and her oldest grandson, Christopher Brian Garber in 1987.
She is survived by sons, Terry (Kathy), Bob (Denise), and Harry (Cheryl) Garber; daughter-in-law, Emma Garber; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Pug lived a life marked by her commitment to family and friends and the many good times and sometimes hard times she helped them overcome. Once she retired from the Huntsville City School System, she took up painting and became quite an accomplished artist. Her paintings are cherished and adorn the homes of her family and friends.
A service to celebrate Pug’s life will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church, of which she was a founding member, on Friday July 25 at 1 p.m., with a reception following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Faith Presbyterian Church in memory of Mary Margaret (Pug) Garber and her husband Harry Garber.
The family sends a special “thank you” to the friends and family who cared for and assisted Pug in her final years. You all hold a special place in her heart!
