Mary “Betsy” Viola Pugh, a longtime resident of Huntsville, was 92 when she passed on Tuesday, January 24, 2025. She passed in her sleep at Monarch Place, an Assisted Living Facility in Hanceville, Alabama.

Mrs. Pugh was born in Buckatunna, Mississippi to Henry Grady and Annie Grace McCaskey. Upon completion of High School, she trained in Mobile, Alabama as a Dental Hygienist. She married Jimmy Bates Pugh, a Naval Aviator, in 1958, and together raised three children as a Naval family. They were stationed in multiple locations around the world, including Maryland, California, Washington State, Virginia, Florida, Texas, and Spain. While in Spain, Mrs. Pugh served as the President of the Naval Offices Wives’ Club. After her husband’s retirement from the Navy, she resumed her career as a Dental Hygienist and even served as the President of the Alabama Dental Hygienist Association.

Mrs. Pugh was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Elizabeth Mazingo, Myra Grace Linam, and Ruth Hearn; and her brother Thomas McCaskey. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Elaine Anderson; sons, James Bates Pugh, and Jonathan Grady Pugh; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m.
