, formerly Coggins, 83 years old of Huntsville, passed to her eternal glory Thursday evening of February 20 at the home of her son. Mrs. Waldrop was born on February 11, 1931 in LaFayette, Alabama of Chambers County to Early Buren and Sara Francis Coggins, the youngest of nine children.
She is survived in death by her three children, Raymond D. Waldrop, Jr., and wife, Victoria Waldrop (Vicki), Amanda W. Ragland, and husband John G. Ragland (Jack), Sarah W. Keller, and husband Walt Keller; by five grandchildren Daniel Waldrop, Carrie Mae and John Ragland, Madison and Nicholas Keller (Maddie and Nick); sister Ruth Britt of Jackson, Mississippi; by well-endeared nieces and nephews, by numerous friends at Faith Presbyterian Church and beyond and most recently by care-givers Shirley Lamb and Gretchen Ayers.
Mae Dell is proceeded in death by her husband, Dennis Waldrop, almost two years prior; father and mother; sisters, Marie Henry, Evelyn Gunn, Sara Earlene Coggins; brothers, Jim Frank, William, Basil and David Coggins.
Mae Dell Waldrop graduated in 1957 from the Sylacauga Hospital School of Nursing. She served as a nurse in both Alexander City and here in Huntsville at Fifth Avenue Hospital until 1967, at which time she retired to further her life-calling to care for her husband and children, which she did until the day she died.
Mae Dell was known for her feisty spirit, her enduring loyalty, her love for her family, her willingness to express herself in great acts of service and her life lived in faith. She was a wonderful cook, an accomplished fisher, a talented seamstress, and a great shot. She enjoyed crocheting, cross-word puzzles, time with grandchildren, flowers, dogs of any kind and taking care of Dennis Waldrop. She was a devoted wife and a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed. Heaven shines brighter!
Visitation will be at 1:00 on Sunday, February 23, at Faith Presbyterian Church, 5003 Whitesburg Drive, followed immediately by the funeral service at 2:00 in the same location. The Reverend Tom Lovell will be officiating.
