Linda Redford Steger Linda Redford Steger, 78, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

Mrs. Steger was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, and grew up in Ettrick & Colonial Heights.

She married the love of her life, Herbert D. Steger, in June 1964. In July 1966, they welcomed twin daughters, Cathy & Claire.

Herbert’s work took their family to Charlestown, Indiana; Lawrence, Kansas; Jeffersonville, Indiana; and finally, Huntsville, Alabama, in 1974.

Linda spent most of her time as a loving housewife and mother, yet she occasionally had different jobs throughout her life: secretary at Mutual of Omaha, hostess at several Huntsville restaurants, parking staff for the Huntsville Stars, and cashier at Lowe’s Home Improvement, to name a few.

Linda was a bright and bubbly delight to all who knew her. She never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on everyone. Her love of animals was legendary, and she treasured all of her pets throughout the years.

She loved all kinds of music; it was a big part of her life. She never missed an opportunity to see her favorite artists in concert, and never missed the Big Spring Jam during its tenure in Huntsville. Linda & Herbert took many a beach vacation over the years – Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, Orange Beach – anywhere there was sun and sand was a peaceful eden to them both.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace A. Redford & Vermadel B. Redford; sister, Susan J. Redford; and her spouse, Herbert D Steger, III.

She is survived by her daughters, Catherine Castle (James) and Claire Renner (Danny); 6 grandchildren: Dustin Hicklen (Ashley); Michael Hicklen (Lyric); Taylor Whisenant (Drew); Jacob Childers (Elizabeth); Zoe Ifill (Asa); Dancy Fox (Austin); 10 great-grandchildren: Tristen & Julian Hicklen; Violet Hicklen; Everett Whisenant; Audrey, Kennedy, Brady, & Natalie Childers; Jet Ifill; and Elliott Fox; special friend, Audrey Beerli, and a host of family and friends far and wide.

The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring members of the Pulmonary Critical Care Medical team and staff at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Gentiva Hospice, who took great care of Linda during her final journey home.

No services are planned at this time. To honor her memory, donations in Mrs. Steger’s name can be made to the American Lung Association.

Berryhill Funeral Home in Huntsville is assisting the family.
