Randall Gean Jarrett

LIMESTONE COUNTY-The Limestone County sheriff’s Office issued a report on the arrest of a suspect who attempted to flee and had in his possession a stolen firearm:

“On the evening of December 6, 2021, Limestone County Deputies completed a report for theft of a firearm in the 19000 block of Cox Rd. in Western Limestone County.  The victim reported the theft of his Smith & Wesson handgun.
A few hours later at about 2:30 AM, December 7, 2021, Deputies Caleb Ryan and Rob Morse were on patrol in the area of East Limestone Rd, when they observed a 2002 White GMC Yukon violate traffic laws. The Deputies performed a traffic stop on the vehicle at East Limestone Rd. and Barksdale Rd. The passenger, later identified as Randall Gean Jarrett, was observed with alcoholic beverages between his legs and appeared extremely nervous. Upon exiting the vehicle, Deputies asked if they could pat Jarrett down for weapons for officer safety, Jarrett stated, no. The Deputies then asked again, and he stated, “it isn’t mine,” as he reached for his waist band. The Deputies quickly removed a Smith & Wesson handgun from Jarrett’s waist band and asked why he tried to hide the gun. Jarrett stated he recently served 6 years for aggravated assault. When deputies attempted to place Jarrett in cuffs, he bolted running North on East Limestone Rd. Deputies Ryan and Morse took him into custody after a brief foot pursuit.
After checking the firearm serial number, it was found to be the gun reported stolen earlier in the shift from Cox Rd.
Randall Gean Jarrett, 25, of Athens, AL, has been charged with Open Container – Alcohol in Vehicle, Receiving Stolen Property 2nd, and Attempting to Elude. Jarrett was released on a $4,000 bond.”
STATEMENT FROM SHERIFF JOSHUA MCLAUGHLIN:
“This was excellent work by Deputies Ryan and Morse. This arrest got a stolen firearm out of the hands of a violent felon with previous convictions for assault and robbery, among many other charges in multiple states. This case will be referred to our partners with the ATF for federal prosecution.”
