Laverne Herston Mullican – Obituary

LaverneLaverne Herston Mullican, 89, formerly of Chattanooga, currently a resident of Crossville, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2013.

She was born on October 29, 1924 in the Mitchell Town Community in Alabama, to the late Susan Mitchell and Clarence O’Neal Herston. Laverne was a 1943 graduate of Lauderdale County High School in Rogersville, Alabama. She worked for TVA and the Chattanooga Medical Society. Laverne was a member of St. John United Methodist Church. She was an avid golfer and loved to play bridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John W. Mullican; siblings, Virginia Mohr and Harold Herston.

Laverne is survived by her three sons, Jim (Cindy) Mullican, John “Buddy” (Leslie) Mullican and Dave (Leslie) Mullican; grandchildren, Ben (Emma) Mullican, Mary (Jason) Perrine, Christopher “Chris” Mullican, Clint and Drew Mullican; great grandchildren; Elizabeth Mullican, Claire and Trevor Perrine; sister, Ruth (Bob) Carroll; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday, December 8 and again from 10 to11 am on Monday at the North Chapel.

Graveside services for Laverne will be held at 11:30 am on Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband with Reverend Dallas Beck officiating.

The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Laverne’s name to St. John United Methodist Church, 3921 Murray Hills Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
