Larry Michael Dwyer – Obituary

Larry Michael Dwyer of Madison, Alabama passed away at Huntsville Hospital, surrounded by his family, on Monday, March 19, 2018 due to pulmonary fibrosis complicated by pneumonia. Larry was born on April 29, 1929 in New Orleans, Louisiana to William J. and Viola S. Dwyer and grew up with his nine brothers and sisters, William, Vera, Eddie, Harold, Erwin, Elvin, Mary, Audrey, and Gerald. Larry began working at Amoco Oil Company in 1946 and stayed with Amoco until he retired in 1987. Larry met the love of his life, Betty Jones, at Amoco, and they were married on June 25, 1955 in New Orleans, Louisiana. They welcomed their firstborn, Michael David, on July 11, 1961 in New Orleans. Their second son, Mark Kevin, was born on September 5, 1965 in Baltimore, Maryland, where they lived until 1972. From there they moved to Atlanta, Georgia where they stayed until 1979, then Olathe, Kansas from 1979 until 1987. In 1987 they retired to Diamondhead, Mississippi until their third hurricane, Hurricane Katrina, sent them back to tornado alley in Overland Park, Kansas in 2006 where they lived until 2017. In retirement, Larry and Betty volunteered for 10 years at Olathe Medical Center in the Rehabilitation Services and Ambulatory Surgery Departments where they made many friends. Larry and Betty moved to Madison, Alabama in November 2017 to be close to their first granddaughter Kathleen, her husband David, and their two small children Ellie and Charlie. Larry is survived by his wife, Betty, sons Mike (fiancée Kim) and Mark (spouse Jackie), grandchildren Kathleen (spouse David), Jarrod (fiancée Jenny), Brenna, Danny, Kelly, Matthew, Sara, Alex, and great grandchildren Ellie and Charlie. Special thanks to the physicians, nurses, and all staff who cared for Larry at Huntsville Hospital. Larry’s funeral service will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Madison at 11:30 AM Wednesday, March 21, 2018 and will be interred at Huntsville Memory Gardens.
