Jocelyn Dee Mitchell Jocelyn Dee Mitchell passed away at home on September 5, 2025, in Athens, AL. She graciously slid into the arms of the Lord with the most beautiful smile on her face.

She was born in 1957 in Portsmouth, Ohio. Jocelyn was the second of four children of Ruby Carolyn and Jerl David Rottgen. She was a devoted mother and beautiful person who deeply loved the Lord, her family and had many meaningful relationships with her friends and coworkers. She was genuinely loved by all and will be missed by many.

Jocelyn was a devoted wife to her husband of 23 years, Brian K. Mitchell. They loved to tell their story of how the Good Lord brought them together with a chance encounter while she was coming in for a job interview. She was a quality specialist for the Boeing Company for 27 years and was a very dedicated worker who loved the opportunity to work on the International Space Station. She cherished her work and coworkers.

Jocelyn loved spending time outdoors gardening her flowers and watching wildlife at the lake house. She especially enjoyed the springtime when the geese would bring their babies to feed in the yard. Her favorites were watching “her” blue birds which were abundant around the yard. Her most cherished time by far was time she spent with her grandchildren and loved spoiling them with toys and clothes and their favorite treats.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jerl David and Ruby Carolyn Rottgen.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years Brian K. Mitchell; her children, Natausha Rae Charnell and Logan McDaniel (Hannahlise) and three grandchildren Stephen Motsinger, London Charnell and Hazel McDaniel, her siblings Kindra Esterline (Tim), Dirk Rottgen (Sherri), Kiel Rottgen (Prudencia), and six nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the hospice nurses at Hospice of Limestone County for their caring and wonderful care. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or a charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, at 1700 Carridale St SW, Decatur, AL. Visitation will be at 11:00 am with the memorial service at 1:00 pm.
