Jeanne Cuquet Northington, 76, of Florence, passed away from sepsis on May 28, 2024. Funeral arrangements shall be held private. Williams Funeral Home is assisting the family.
She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 7, 1947. She was the valedictorian of her class at Ecole Classique, where she ran track and played volleyball. She majored in English at Newcomb College (Tulane University), where she graduated with honors in English in three years. She was presented at the Hermes Ball. She taught eighth grade English at McMain Junior High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. She married her college sweetheart and was a devoted mother to her two daughters.
Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at age 28, she overcame great adversity. She was an inspiration to many because of the grace and courage with which she battled her long-term illness. She remained grateful in challenging circumstances and was eternally optimistic. She was non-judgmental and exuded patience. She was a great example of a mother. She shared her optimism and kind spirit with her family and friends.
She was a very empathetic person with a gentle soul. She was a great listener. She used these gifts after she earned her Master of Arts degree in counseling from the University of North Alabama and became a licensed professional counselor and life coach. In her practice, she focused on self-empowerment, grief processing, changing negative beliefs, and family relationships. She was a member of Chi Sigma Iota, the Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International.
She was involved in charity work as a military spouse. She was the President of the Women’s Medical Auxiliary for William Beaumont Army Medical Center. She was a member of the Florence Study Club. She enjoyed gardening and playing bridge with her beloved bridge groups. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a wonderful grandmother of her three precious grandsons. She was generous with her time and her listening skills.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fernando James Cuquet, Jr. and Marjorie Marian McQuade Cuquet, and her nephew, Ashton Felchlin.
She is survived by her beloved husband, James Wright Northington, M.D., daughters Anna Northington Hutcheson (Mike), Marian Elizabeth Northington, M.D. (Andy Duckett, D.M.D.), three grandsons, James Michael Hutcheson, William “Will” Northington Hutcheson, and William Bradford Barnes; sisters Mary Cuquet Felchlin and Marguerite Cuquet (Marty Fall); nieces Eleanor Felchlin and Devin Berrigan; nephews James Berrigan and Joseph Berrigan.
