Jean Robinson Walker, 78, of Huntsville, passed away on July 12. She was born and raised in Pensacola, FL, and graduated with a BSN from the University of Alabama in 1966. She married Ed, her husband of 52 years, that same summer. Jean taught nursing to help put Ed through dental school at UAB, then the two of them lived in Arkansas while he served as a dentist in the Air Force and in Atlanta, where he completed an orthodontic residency at Emory University, before settling in Huntsville to raise their two girls.

Jean was an active volunteer in Huntsville, serving as a charter member and president of the Huntsville Pilgrimage Association; a member on the planning committee for the first Panoply of the Arts in Huntsville; a board member, secretary, and treasurer for the Junior League of Huntsville; an active member and Stephen Minister at First Presbyterian Church; and a Stephen Leader for Stephen Ministries. Jean also shared her love of nursing by teaching prenatal classes at the UAH hospital clinic, and her fondness for historic homes led to her seven-year service on the board of directors to manage and maintain the Howard Weeden House museum. She thoroughly enjoyed her involvement with the Junior League’s Rainbow Rhythm Band, in which she played for many years and with many of whose members she remained close friends.

Mrs. Walker is survived by her daughter, Robin Walker Palmer and her husband, David; daughter, Leslie Walker Bickford and her husband, Heath; and grandchildren, Mabry McCain Palmer, Leslie Hamilton Palmer, John Evans Bickford, and Lillian Campbell Bickford.

Visitation will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 29th in the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church, and a 4 p.m. celebration of life in the sanctuary. The Reverend Dr. Tara W. Bulger and Reverend Robin Palmer will officiate. A private graveside service will be held.

Memorial gifts may be made to Stephen Ministry at First Presbyterian Church, Huntsville.
