James P. Jackson, 89, of Huntsville, known as Jim or Dimp by his friends and family, departed this life Sunday. Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his father and mother, Henry Gradus and Florence Wilma Jackson, his brother, Donald G. Jackson, and his first wife, Kathleen Neason Jackson.
Mr. Jackson was a US Navy WWII veteran and served on LST-777 in the Pacific. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping and traveling. First and foremost, Jim was a devoted, loving family man.
A native of Birmingham, AL, he was a machinist, working in the steel industry prior to relocating to Huntsville in 1961 to work in the space and auto industry. He retired after more than 20 years with Chrysler.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Jean Jackson, children, Marsha Kulley (Walt), Michael Jackson (Jewel), Donna Troutman (Dave), and Bruce Jackson (Tammy); grandchildren, Kathleen Jackson and Shannon Jackson; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Arnold; sister, Helen Williams; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.
