James Harry Daughtry was born in Hartford, Alabama, June 21, 1932, the son and only child of Harry Buren Daughtry and Eula Noblin Daughtry.
He used his formative years in the study and learning of sports, particularly baseball and football, at times playing both offense and defense.
After graduating from Geneva County High School, he attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute where he received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree. That degree, plus his time in active duty with the US Army, 10th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division led to work with International Paper Company; Corp of Engineers Mobile District; MSFC-NASA, Huntsville; Safeguard System Command, US Army, Huntsville; Kwajalein Missile Range District, US Army; Teledyne Brown Engineering, Huntsville; and consultant to Mevatec Corporation, Huntsville.
Jim was also active in the work of First Presbyterian Church where he became a member in 1963. He served as deacon, elder, and taught Sunday school. He also served as board member of the Presbyterian Children’s Home
He is survived by his wife, son, daughter, three grandchildren, and two nieces.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 11:30 at Maple Hill Cemetery. The memorial service will follow at First Presbyterian Church at 1:30, with visitation following the service.
