Glenn Dora Brown Conour – Obituary

Funeral services for Glenn Dora Brown Conour, of Falkville, will be Saturday, September 17, at 11:00 AM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clayton Speed officiating with burial in Falkville City Cemetery, Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Friday, September 16, from 6:00pm till 8:00pm. Mrs. Conour was born April 17, 1927 in Falkville, Alabama, to Joseph Walter and Lela Beatrice Compton Brown.

 

She is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Charles Conour, daughters Carol (Mike) Tyler, of Falkville, and Cheryl Hancock, of Decatur, and one son, Chuck (Michael)Conour of Birmingham. She was the proud grandmother of Lori (Eli) Tyler Smith, of Hartselle, Carrie (Travis) Tyler Constance, of Jemison, Nicholas (Tori Emerson) Conour, of Decatur, Lela Tyler, of Davenport, Florida, and Elizabeth Conour and David Conour of Birmingham. She was a loving great grandmother to Caitlyn Rose Constance, Tyler Jay Smith, Elli Carol Smith, Grayson Corrie Conour, Mason McKenzie Constance, Maggie Ann Constance, and Kyson Kentley Conour. She is also survived by her sister, Mildred Brown Shaneyfelt, of Falkville, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings, Joseph Forney Brown, Hoyt Brown, Jean Brown Sivley, Hubert Brown, Paul Brown, Maurice Brown, Sam Brown, Beatrice Brown Hyche, Charles Brown, and James E. Brown, as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Glenn was a 1945 graduate of Falkville High School, and a 1947 graduate of Birmingham Business College, where she played on the Birmingham City Champion basketball team. She also attended West Point School in Cullman County during her 2nd through 10th grade years. After her marriage to Charles on September 28, 1952, she was active in a number of Methodist churches as they traveled to various construction jobs. They settled in Falkville, where she was a former church treasurer and president of the WSCS (later known as United Methodist Women) at the Falkville United Methodist Church, the church where she grew up. After several years, they joined Lebanon Baptist Church, where she was active in choir, WMU, taught Sunday School, and served in the nursery. In recent years, she became a member of First Baptist Church of Hartselle, where she was a member of the Senior Adult Choir and the Mary SS Class. Mrs. Conour was a homemaker most of her married life while raising children, but had several other jobs during the years. She worked at the Falkville Cafe, Falkville School Cafeteria, Pineview Hospital, and Maison Morgan.

 

Pallbearers will be grandsons Nicholas Conour and David Conour, grandsons-in-law Robert Eli Smith and Travis Constance, great grandson Tyler Jay Smith and great nephews Larry Buckelew, Lee Hobbs, and Lamar Buckelew. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews and great nephews.

 

Her family would like to give special thanks to her loving caregivers, Sarah French Hearring, Joyce Williams, and Destinee French for their devoted service, as well as Molly Vest of AlaCare, who attended her many times.
