Photo of Gary Wayne Wakefield The following obituary was beautifully written by the family of Mr. Wakefield:

Gary Wayne Wakefield, born August 14, 1954, passed away on June 27, 2026. Gary spent the majority of his life in Double Springs, Alabama, before moving to Tuscaloosa in 2017 to be closer to his cherished grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Noah and Flora Cobb and Howard and Lena Wakefield; his parents, Lloyd “Buck” and Jean Wakefield; his brother, Steven Wakefield; his nephew, Bradley Wakefield; and his in‑laws, Alfred and Vernie Townsend. Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Karen Wakefield; his sons, Josh (Julie) and Jobe; his grandchildren, Caroline, Grant, and James; sister Gina (Bill) Tittle and a loving extended family and many lifelong friends. Gary built a long and successful career in sales, working primarily in the Mobile Home industry and later with Country Expressions furniture manufacturer before retiring from Econoline. His work ethic, integrity, and outgoing nature earned him the respect of colleagues and customers alike. Faith was a cornerstone of Gary’s life. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Double Springs for over 40 years, where he served faithfully as a deacon. After moving to Tuscaloosa, he continued to serve joyfully at First Baptist Church Tuscaloosa, participating in Sunday School, Man Church, Vacation Bible School, and volunteering at the Soup Kitchen and as a greeter on the First Impressions team. His kindness and willingness to help others were evident in every part of his life. Gary never met a stranger and was truly a friend to all. He found joy in antique, estate, and yard sales; in taking road trips, sailing and flying with his sons and grandchildren; and in working alongside Karen in their yard. He could always be found in the stands cheering on his grandchildren. His warm spirit, generosity, and love for his family will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. Visitation will be Monday, July 6, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Double Springs, where the service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Winston Memorial Cemetery in Haleyville. Brother George Whitten, Reverend Keith Pugh and Brother Shawn Blanton will officiate. Memories and Condolences may be shared at Nicholsfuneralhomes.com
