Frances Leola Pounders, 99, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025. She was born on January 10, 1926 in Chilton County, AL, to the late Lonzo Headley & Lula Leola Henley Headley.
Frances graduated Thorsby Institute and then went on to pursue her Nursing degree from Birmingham Baptist School of Nursing. She dedicated much of her life to caring for others while working as a nurse. Her career began at Russellville Hospital, where she met the love of her life, Cecil Pounders. They shared 49 wonderful years of marriage and built a wonderful life together with their three children. She took great joy & pride in her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In her early years, she was a beloved member of the Red Bay community, where she formed many close friendships. Frances was a longtime member of the Church of Christ and found joy in spending time with her family, tending to her flower garden, baking, playing games, traveling, and writing poetry. Frances will be remembered for her gentle spirit, strong faith, and loving heart. Her kindness and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Cecil Pounders, son Randy Pounders and his wife Janice, brothers Samuel, Clarence, Ernest, Renfroe and sister Eunice.
She leaves to cherish her memory son Cecil Pounders Jr. (late wife Sandra), daughter Gail (Ronnie) Roberts, siblings Lois Headley Hamilton, Robert (Ola Mae) Headley, and Alvin Headley. Five cherished grandchildren: Linda (Manuel) Lara, Robby (Ashley) Roberts, Sarah (Phil) Albritton, Ilex (Sarah) Pounders, and Holly (Eric) Callahan. Six great-grandchildren: Anthony, Nydia, Zowie, Kate, Andrew, and Aubrey.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Colbert Memorial Chapel in Tuscumbia, AL on Tuesday March 25th, at 2pm, with burial to follow.
She fought the good fight, she finished the race, she kept the faith. – 2 Timothy 4:7
