Floyd Griffith, of Decatur, died Wednesday September 9, 2015, at Community Hospital in Coldwater, Ohio. He was born in Robbins, Tennessee, to the late Ardell and Matilda Long Griffith. On February 21, 1951, he married Charlotte Waggoner, who survives in Decatur. Also surviving are a daughter, Nancy Lee and Edward Duhe, of New Iberia, Louisiana; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Griffith, of Grand Junction, Colorado; grandchildren, Adam and Jennifer Griffith, Breland and Tyler Johnson, Lindsey and Bryan Stevens, Amanda and Kraig Cason and Eddie Duhe; three great-grandchildren, Rheagan Randolph, Julianna Johnson and Kinley Johnson; in-laws, John and Betty Waggoner, of New Weston, Mary Thomas, of Centerville, Jean and LaVern Stammen, of Coldwater, and Jerry and Karen Waggoner, of Rossburg. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lynn Griffith, and siblings, Grace Hughett, Veda Mullins, Beulah Ellis, Mae Hamrick, Lloyd Griffith, Hugo Griffith, Patton Griffith, Oscar Griffith and Geneva Byrd.
He was a member of Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church in Decatur. He retired from the U.S. Army Air Corp after working as an aircraft mechanic at Wright Patterson in Dayton. He then went to work in Huntsville on the Hawk Missile at Redstone Arsenal and at the Enewetak Atoll test facility, before retiring from Madison Research. He later volunteered at Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2015, at St. Louis Catholic Church, North Star, and Fr. David Zink officiated. Burial with military rites provided by the North Star American Legion followed in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends visited at St. Louis Church, North Star, on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. Condolences may be left at hogenkampfh.com.
