Florence Police Arrest Suspect After Firearm Theft And High-Speed Chase

FLORENCE-On April 8, 2025, Florence Police were notified of a hold-up alarm on the premises of a
licensed firearms dealer in the 100 block of West Mobile Street.

An individual fled the store, stealing a firearm in the process. A witness described the offender and his
vehicle. While responding to the scene, Officer Lambert located the suspect vehicle
traveling west on Veterans Drive.

When he attempted to perform a traffic stop on the car, the driver fled into Colbert County. Officers got the vehicle stopped on Wilson Dam Road at River Road. A high-risk stop was performed, and Jovani Michael Johnson was
taken into custody without injury.

Johnson was charged with Theft of Property in the Second Degree and Attempting to
Elude Law Enforcement. He was transported to the Lauderdale County Detention
Center with a $15,500 Bond.

Jovani Johnson is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
