MADISON COUNTY– On April 21, 2025, Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies were contacted by members of a Predator Poacher organization regarding a possible case involving the online enticement of a minor. The group advised that they were conducting an online sting operation when they encountered a suspect who they believed had been communicating inappropriately with an individual they portrayed as an eleven-year-old child.

Deputies responded to the location and made contact with group members, who provided evidence indicating that the

suspect, identified as John Canaan Emmons, 23, had sent explicit photographs during the course of the online exchange.

Our Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) detective was immediately notified and responded to the scene. After speaking with the Predator Poacher organization, detectives reviewed the information obtained during their operation and determined that it potentially supported an existing ICAC investigation already underway involving Emmons.
Sheriff’s deputies and ICAC investigators then made contact with the suspect. During the interview, detectives obtained Emmons’ consent to search his mobile device. A forensic review revealed the presence of child sexual abuse material on the phone. Emmons was taken into custody and charged with four counts of Possession of Child Pornography. He was booked into the Madison County Jail on a $40,000 bond.
This investigation remains active, and additional charges may be forthcoming as detectives continue their review.
