Exploring The Mysteries Of Mound Building With Dr. Sarah Sherwood February 6

FLORENCE-Dr. Sarah C. Sherwood is an Associate Professor at Sewanee: The University of the South, in the Dept. of Earth and Environmental Systems. She received her PhD from the University of Tennessee and did her dissertation research in northern Alabama. Specializing in Geoarchaeology (the application of the earth sciences to archaeological questions), she has worked on a range of site types and time periods throughout the Southeastern US, South Africa, Eastern and Western Europe, and on Easter Island.  For the last 15 years she has carried out research on a number of different prehistoric mound sites with an emphasis on their use and construction.
In this talk on Thursday, February 6th at 6pm, she will share her research on the study of mounds and earthworks built by the ancestors of the American Indians.
This event is sponsored by the Tennessee Valley Authority and Florence Arts and Museums. It is the sixth in a series of presentations based around archaeological study and stewardship in the Shoals region.
