Eugene McCarley, born November 14, 1926, passed away July 20, 2018 in Tuscumbia, Alabama. A native of Franklin County, he graduated from Phil Campbell High School and a member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and was a proud veteran of the US Army, having served in WWII where he received several medals for his service.

He was retired from Reynolds Metals after 30 years of service. After retirement, he restored antique cars and trucks and won several ribbons and trophies. He was a master mind at repairing and building “anything”–he was a machinist, carpenter, and mechanic. However, his greatest passion was his family: his wife, daughter, and granddaughters ( to whom he became Dad as well as PawPaw) and his little “munchkins, his great grandchildren. He made sure his daughter’s flag was flying during every holiday. He had a love and respect for animals and even raised Boston terriers in his earlier years. So many memories will be held in his family’s hearts forever. There will be no wheelchairs in heaven, no diseases that rob the mind and body of dignity, and no sad goodbyes. “Thank you, Daddy, for your loyalty, work ethic and unconditional love. To the man who always had my back, I am forever Daddy’s Girl.”

Visitation with family and friends will be Sunday, July 22, 2018, from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville, Alabama. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 in the funeral home chapel with Scott Delashaw officiating. Pallbearers will include James McCarley, Jerry McCarley, Joel McCarley, Roy Strickland, Billy Darks, and Jimmy Murphree. Honorary bearer is Austin Darks. Burial will be in Franklin Memory Gardens, Russellville.

Survivors include daughter, Paula McCarley Scott (Charles); granddaughters, Christy Darks (Billy) and Courtney McCarley; great grandchildren, Austin Darks, Jentry Darks, Sabra Darks, and Lawler Darks; and adopted PawPaw to Susan Ghorbani; and brother, Denton McCarley (Della Ruth).

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Maxine McCarley; parents, Alex and Maggie McCarley; and sister, Lola Strickland.

Special thanks to the Cottage of the Shoals-East back hall, Kindred Hospice, and Shoals Hospital ICU, and Senior Care Center for their professional, compassionate and loving care during this difficult time. “This is not goodbye, Daddy–just see you later.”

Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville, is directing.
