Edna Earle Johnson, 94, Florence, Ala., daughter of the late Earl Freeman and Juanita King Freeman. The sun rose on Edna Earle on October 31, 1917 and the sun set on July 1, 2012.
She confessed Christ at an early age and united with First Missionary Baptist Church in Sheffield, Ala., and later united with Armstead Chapel CME Church in Florence, Ala. At Armstead she served as Church Treasurer and President of the Missionary Society for many years. She was also a member of the choir and the Stewardess Board.
Edna Earle graduated Valedictorian from Sheffield Colored High School in 1936, which later became Sterling High School in 1942. She was a dedicated employee of ECM Hospital and retired as a Licensed Practical Nurse after 35 years of service. She was a member of Terry Chapter Order of Eastern Star for 65 years, Florence Bible Band, and Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Eta Phi Beta Sorority. She also loved to sew and traveled extensively.
Edna Earle loved her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her late husband Jim Johnson Jr., daughter Edna Louise Dennis Dowling and son Arthur Thomas “Charlie” Randle. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters Loretta Goodloe, Zethelyn Randle Johnson (Charlie Jr.), both of Florence, Ala., Nepsie Johnson Arnold (Ronnie) of Cleveland, Tenn.; and one son, Robert “Moochie” Randle (Frances), Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Three sisters, The late Paralee Armstead, Myrtle F. Simpson and Lena F. Long both of Sheffield, Ala.; Three cousins, Harold Floyd (Louisana), of Tuscumbia, Ala., Mary Etta Wilson and Ann Buckingham both of Florence, Ala.; She had 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. today at Thompson and Son Funeral Home, Florence, Ala. The Homegoing Service will be at Noon on Friday, July 6, 2012, at First Missonary Baptist Church, 1103 Sterling Blvd., Sheffield, Ala. Interment will be at Florence Cemetery, Florence, Ala.
