Funeral services for Ruth Bowers Scott, 73, will be Sunday, August 30 beginning with visitation at 2:00 PM and the funeral at 3:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle, AL. Brother Craye Hall of Valhermoso Springs Baptist Church will be officiating. Burial will be at the Center Springs Methodist Church cemetery in Somerville, AL.
Ruth passed August 26, 2026 in Madison, AL while undergoing rehabilitation following a stroke in July.
She was born the fifth of nine children to Euwin Etherage Bowers and Thelma Wharton Bowers on October 21, 1952. She graduated from Cotato High School in 1971 and worked in various manufacturing, administration, and shipping jobs throughout her career. She retired from FedEx Office in 2022.
Ruth was a hard worker, organized and diligent in everything she undertook. In her earlier years she worked two jobs to help support the household of younger siblings. She was known for her generous spirit, giving gifts to family, friends and co-workers throughout her life no matter her financial circumstances.
Ruth married the love of her life, Thomas Wayne Scott, on July 2, 1977. Wayne preceded Ruth in death in 1994. Also preceding her in death were her parents, her brother -E. T. Bowers, her sisters- Elizabeth Smith and Esther Brown, and brothers-in-law- Modie Smith, Dewey Brown and Kenneth Selby, as well as two nephews- Jacky Brown and Danny Selby.
She is survived by her sisters -Betty Selby, Dorothy Owens, Mary Dixon (Bill), Jane Spriggs (Eric), and one brother -James Bowers (Brenda). As well as numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
