Edker Lee “Doc” Harbin, 76, died Sunday, December 20, 2015, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born April 18, 1939, in Winfield, Ala., to Verlon and Velma Woodham Harbin. He was given the nickname Doc when he was three years old. After a doctor’s visit for one of his brothers, he played doctor after that doctor. Doc had many struggles in life, having survived polio at age 7 that left him with a walking disability he later overcame, and having spent his sixteenth birthday in the hospital undergoing a neck infusion; but, he still managed to work. He was a dispatcher for the Fulton Police Department for a short period of time and worked as a supervisor for a printing company in Tullahoma, Tenn., and Kankakee, Ill., before becoming completely disabled.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Eddie Boutwell officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery north of Tremont.
He is survived by one sister, Helen Fay Harbin Grubbs of Mantachie; many nieces and nephews who loved him very much; and his special friend of many years, Wonda, who has been his caregiver for the last year and a half. He will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his seven brothers, Elvin Byron, Wilburn, Arlon, Rayburn “Bill,” J.R., Carlous, Stanley, and Jerry.
Pallbearers will be Mel Harbin, Mike Harbin, James Harbin, Ken Grubbs, Brandon Harbin, and Donnie Garner.
