Doris Helen Gilbert Todd, 83, of Athens passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at home surrounded by family. Mrs. Todd was born June 8, 1936 in Haleyville, AL to William Elvis Gilbert and Eula Garrard Gilbert.
Graveside services for Mrs. Todd will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 at Maple Hill Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.
Affectionally known as “Mae Mae” to her grandchildren, Mrs. Todd was a graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in Elementary Education. She was a teacher for 36 years with the majority of her career with Athens City Schools. She was actively involved in the Huntsville Chapter of NAMI. She was a board member for almost 20 years with the North Central Alabama Mental Health Center and was also a member of Athens Retired Teachers. She was a member of Central Church of Christ. She loved being actively involved in her grandchildren’s schools and activities.
She is survived by her husband, James William Todd, Sr.; daughter, Rachel Todd Vought (Lee); son, James William Todd, Jr.; grandchildren, Christopher, Laura Leigh and Emily Ann Vought; brother, Joel Gilbert (Melissa); several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by her parents.
