De Otties “Deotis” Malone was born October 6, 1938 in Limestone County to the late Freeman and Cora Malone Sr. He departed this life, Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at his residence. He was baptized into Christ in the 1950s by the late Bro. Elmo Roundtree. He was a devoted and dedicated faithful worker for the Lord. In the latter part of his life, he dedicated the remainder of his service for the Lord at the North Athens Church of Christ where his loving brother, Sylvester is the minister. He was a devoted husband and provider to his wife of 61 years and their four children.
He attended Trinity High School where he also helped his father drive a school bus to transport students and help tend to the family farm. Over the years, he has also worked at Redstone Arsenal, TVA and Steelcase, retiring from Steelcase in August 2004. He continued his skills in brick masonry/concrete, gardening and lawn care until he couldn’t. Deotis was known as a very hardworking man to many, namely a busy bee where his works could be seen around the community from Alabama to Tennessee.
Deotis was preceded in death by his parents, Freeman Sr. and Cora Malone; his siblings Odell Malone, Clarence Malone, Donald Malone, Melissa Malone, Freeman (Mary Helen) Malone Jr., Nina Long, Dorothye Lloyd and Birdie Yarbrough.
He leaves to cherish his memories and legacy to his loving and devoted wife, Wilma; Four (4) Children: James (Margaret) Malone, Charles Malone, Dorothy (Byron) Davis, Jenene Malone; Six (6) Grandchildren: Daryle (Jennifer) Malone, Christian Malone, Chloe Malone, Marleeya Shoulders, Christina Shoulders, Erica Shoulders; One (1) Great Grandchild: Cameron Malone; Seven (7) siblings: Sylvester (Robbie) Malone, Thomas Malone, Marvin (Robin) Malone, Lester (Abbie) Malone, Richard (Mary) Malone, Stella (Lawrence) Whitaker, Gertrude (Glen) Belcher; Sister-in-law: Sue Malone; Brother-in-law: John Long; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
