Cynthia Ann Mussard was born on Nov. 23, 1947, in Wheeling, West Virginia, the eldest daughter of Calvin Ellsworth Loeffler and Ramona Gasber Loeffler. She died on Feb. 16, 2016, in Sheffield, Alabama, after a courageous battle against cancer. Cindy, as she preferred to be called, was the wife of Tom Mussard and a 1965 graduate of Martins Ferry High School.
Preceding her in death was her father, Calvin Ellsworth Loeffler, and infant daughter, Jamie Sue Mellott.
Cindy is survived by her mother, Ramona Lamb, of Lansing, Ohio; her sisters, Christine Dupont, of Jacksonville, Florida, Connie Loeffler, of Bridgeport, Ohio, and Marj (Sam) Scarberry, of Benwood, West Virginia; her sons, Dan Joseph Mellott, of Sheffield, Alabama, and Ronald James (Tina) Mellott, of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; and grandchildren, Baylee, Krysten, and Canon. Additional survivors include her husband, and stepdaughter, Jennifer Jane Mussard; and grandchildren, Morgan and William Massey; along with aunt, uncle, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In keeping with Cindy’s wishes, a public visitation will not be held; only a private family graveside service.
Cindy’s life, like most, had both extreme high and low events. A decade as van driver for the Tuscumbia Alabama Senior Center was definitely a memorable high point. Both in hauling people for the center’s activities, and the delivering of lunches for homebound, gave Cindy her much needed personal interactions.
A very special daily event was watching Cindy’s canine nurses, Otto and Budreaux (Buddy for short) standing guard while enjoying the petting. When compared to humans, it’s amazing how animals are more keenly aware regarding an owner’s condition; whether it is slight or deathly serious.
The family is forever grateful for the outpouring of support during this extremely complicated period along with the thoughtful and compassionate services provided by Colbert County Family Practice, Northwest Alabama Cancer Center, Hospice of North Alabama, and Colbert Memorial Gardens.
