Carol Jett Garren, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, musician, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, but her legacy of kindness, faith, music, and service will live on for generations.
Born to Oliver J. Jett and Virginia Longdin Jett, Carol was preceded in death by her parents; and brother James Allen “Jimmy” Jett. She is survived by her devoted husband, R. Wayne Garren; her son, Glenn Higdon; daughter-in-law, Melissa Higdon; granddaughters, Laura Higdon and Caroline Higdon; brother, Ralph Lewis Jett; and many beloved family members and friends.
A graduate of Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, Carol earned a degree in Music Education and spent many years teaching elementary music in Georgia schools. She later served as a bank administrator and remained deeply involved in music throughout her life.
Carol served as Music Director at First Methodist Church in Eufaula, Alabama, and also directed the Camerata Music Chorus. Through her leadership, talent, and dedication, she touched countless lives and enriched her community.
Carol will be remembered as a warm, gracious, nurturing, and compassionate woman whose kindness made everyone feel welcomed. Her faith, generosity, and love for family and friends were the hallmarks of a life well lived.
Though she is no longer with us, her beautiful spirit lives on in the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Scottsboro Funeral Home with Rev. Cory Burns officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Carol Jett Garren to the
First United Methodist – Scottsboro Choir Department.
