Billy Joe Guthrie, 82, of the Bagley community, passed away Thursday November 9, 2023. He was born on December 26, 1941 in Townley, AL and was a graduate of Carbon Hill High School.
Billy Joe met the love of his life, Janice, in Oakman and married after a brief courtship. They built a beautiful life and enjoyed 61 years of marriage. His early hobbies included camping, fishing, gardening and hunting. He was born with a natural musical ability and enjoyed playing several instruments including the guitar and the piano. He was a member of The Gospel Generations band and a long-time member of Grace Baptist Church where he played in the worship band for several years. He retired from Pemco Aeroplex after many years of faithful and dedicated service.
Billy Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Olen Guthrie and Gracie Romine McGough, sister, Bernice Alexander and daughter, Laura Martin. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Medders Guthrie, daughters, Angela Larkin (Robert) of Vinemont, Tanya Drummond (Keith) of Bagley, and sister, Barbara Jones of Townley. He had 6 grandchildren, Heather, Stephanie, Avery, Ashlynn, Anna and Alison and 4 great grandchildren, Mariah, Raegan, Luna and Max. He thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He deeply loved God and his beloved family.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Bell’s Funeral Home in Sumiton, AL at 11:00am and the service will follow at 12:00pm. Burial will immediately follow at New Horizon Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in his memory to Grace Baptist Church 101 Earley Street, Sumiton, AL 35148.
