ATHENS – Athens State University’s Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science has achieved national accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The accreditation was announced last week by Athens State University’s Dean of Arts and Sciences, Ron Fritze.

ABET accredits college and university programs in the disciplines of applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology at the associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degree levels. With ABET accreditation students and employers can be confident that a program meets the quality standards that produce graduates prepared to enter a global workforce.
“Accreditation of Athens State’s Computer Science Degree by ABET is a substantial achievement for both the University and the Computer Science Program,” said Adam Lewis, Assistant Professor of Computer Science. “ABET accreditation ensures for students that our degree meets internationally recognized quality standards for computer science education. The accreditation ensures employers that an Athens State computer science graduate has the educational background they need to enter the computing profession.”
The Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science at Athens State provides students with a strong foundation in programming, problem analysis, problem solving, and software engineering. Degree options in Computer Science and Information Security significantly supplement this foundation with practical experience using hardware and software resources available in contemporary computer laboratories maintained by the department.
