Athens Police Make Arrest In Deadly Hit-And Run Accident

ATHENS-On Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 10:15 pm, the Athens Police Department responded to the area of US Highway 72 and French Farms Blvd for a vehicle versus pedestrian crash.  When officers arrived, a deceased male later identified as Jesse Lee Turner (age 38) of Athens, was located in the roadway of US Highway 72. The involved driver fled the scene after the collision.

Detectives with the Athens Police Department began an investigation to include: collecting evidence, reviewing

nearby surveillance videos, and following up on tips received from the public.

By February 17, 2025, detectives were able to determine the vehicle involved in the crash and the identity of the driver.  The vehicle was located and recovered in the Hazel Green, Alabama area.  The driver, Kimberly Dawn Hurth (age 38) of Athens was located later that night and brought in for questioning.  Following the interview, Hurth was arrested for Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving an Injury/Death.

Hurth has been released, following her posting a $5,000.00 bond.
