“Amen to That”….AMHOF Celebrates Black History Month

“Much of today’s music is rooted in the rich gospel traditions of the Black church. In recognition of these traditions, the Alabama Music Hall of Fame will present the second Annual Black History Month event Celebrating Gospel Music, at 5 p.m. Sunday January 31st at Muscle Shoals High School Auditorium.  The music from these choirs will stir your soul and make you want to shout for joy.”  said Dixie Griffin.

From Mega Stars like Nat “King” Cole, Percy Sledge, Dinah Washington, Sun Ra, Candi Staton, Martha Reeves, Wilson Pickett, Eddie Floyd, the Commodores,

and the Temptations, to behind the scene geniuses W.C. Handy, John T. “Fess” Whatley and William Levi Dawson, Black Alabamians have made exceptional contributions to the American Culture of Music.

Performing during the show will be St. Paul Choir, Russellville, Howell Sledge of Leighton, Rev. Jerry Reeves and The Galilee Missionary Baptist Church of Leighton, James Brown Gospel Choir of Tuscaloosa, and The Gospel Imperials of Huntsville.

The emcee for “Amen To That” is the talented Sheffield native Dr. Eric Kirkman.

Tickets are $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students, and under six is free. They are available at the Alabama Music Hall of fame, 617 U.S. 72 West in Tuscumbia, AL, or by telephone at 256-381-4417.

All proceeds will go to fund the Alabama Music Hall of Fame.
