Curtis W. Slaten, 83 of Hartselle passed away peacefully at his home on February 6, 2026. Born in Morgan County to the late Melvin and Ruby Slaten, Curtis carried with him the values, steadiness, and quiet Strength shaped by the roots and his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sue Ann Slaten, and his daughters, Lori Slaten, and Melissa Shiver (Nicole), and Sheri Jenkins (Jay). He is als survived by his sister, Gail Terry (Doug) and Sue Dobbs (Gary), whose lifelong bond with him remained a constant source of Connection and Support.
Curtis was a retiree of GE Electric in Decatur, Alabama, and a well known business owner in his community. For more than 50 years he operated Slaten’s Upholstery in Hartselle, Alabama, earning a reputation for his craftsmanship, dedication, and the kind of personal service that built lasting relationships.
Even in death, Curtis offered a final and selfless gift by donating his body to science and research at UAB in Birmingham, Alabama–a gesture that reflects his generosity and Thoughtfulness he carried throughout his life.
He leaves behind grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him joy, along with many relatives and close friends who will remember his warmth, his presence, and the countless moments shared over the years. His legacy lives on in the people who knew him best and in the love he gave so freely.
The Family will hold a Celebration of Life Service on Sunday February 15, 2026 at 3:00PM at Soul Harbor Church at 633 Cut-off Road, Somerville, AL 35670 with Bro. Ralph Henderson officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00PM-3:00PM at the Church before the service. Food will be served in the Fellowship Hall following the Service.
